Patient question
How much does teeth whitening cost in the Czech Republic
Teeth whitening at a dentist in the Czech Republic costs 3,500 to 12,000 CZK depending on the method. At-home whitening with dentist-made trays runs 3,500 to 6,000 CZK. In-office chemical whitening is 6,000 to 10,000 CZK. Laser whitening (Zoom, Beyond) is 8,000 to 15,000 CZK. Prague tends to be 20 to 40 percent more expensive.
Detailed explanation
Whitening splits into surface whitening (removing stains from the enamel surface) and deep whitening (chemical oxidative bleaching). A dental hygienist can handle the surface work for 800 to 2,000 CZK; only a dentist does the deep bleaching.
At-home whitening. The dentist makes custom trays (thin fitted mouthguards) and you apply a carbamide peroxide gel (10 to 22 percent) at home. The course runs 10 to 14 days and you see results after 3 to 5 days. The price is usually 3,500 to 6,000 CZK including the trays and gel.
In-office whitening. The dentist applies 25 to 40 percent hydrogen peroxide directly to the teeth and activates it with light or laser. One visit takes 45 to 90 minutes. The effect is immediate, 3 to 8 shades lighter. The price is 6,000 to 15,000 CZK depending on the system.
Risks. Temporary tooth sensitivity for 24 to 72 hours. Gum irritation with poor application. Whitening does not work on fillings, crowns, or teeth discoloured from the inside (tetracycline staining). You therefore need a dental hygiene appointment and possibly a consultation before whitening.
