Patient question
How many times a day to brush your teeth
Brush at least twice a day, in the morning after breakfast and in the evening before bed. Brushing must last 2 to 3 minutes. Always add an interdental brush or floss at least once a day. After acidic food (wine, citrus) do not brush right away, the enamel is softened.
Detailed explanation
Twice a day is the minimum frequency recommended by both the World Health Organization and the Czech Dental Chamber. Morning brushing after breakfast removes food; evening brushing is critical, because saliva production drops overnight and plaque sticks more firmly to the tooth.
Technique matters more than frequency. Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to the gum. Small circular motions, 10 seconds in each area. System: always start at the same tooth and cover every surface (outer, biting, inner). Do not forget the tongue (a scraper or the soft side of the brush).
Cleaning between teeth is 40 percent of success. A toothbrush reaches poorly into the gaps between teeth, where 80 percent of adult decay begins. Use an interdental brush (Curaprox CPS, TePe) or floss every evening. In the morning only if your gaps are tight and trap a lot of food.
After acidic food wait 30 minutes. Wine, citrus, fizzy drinks and apples lower the pH in the mouth and soften the enamel. Brushing immediately in that state abrades the enamel. First rinse your mouth with water, wait 30 minutes, and only then brush.
